ABOUT THIS CORPUS:
=================
The follow-up study of Finnish dialects was started in 1989. It is a
sociolinguistic and dialectological longitudinal study which is carried
out in cooperation with the universities. The goal of the project has
been to study the development of regional dialects in real time in 10
rural municipalities at the interval of 10 years. The municipalities
chosen represent the traditional main dialect groups of Finnish. In
each town, altogether 15 speakers have been used as informants. The
external variables used in the study include age and sex: in each town,
speakers of three generations have been studied (O = old, M = middle-aged,
Y = young), both men and women. The data have been collected by using the
traditional dialect interview method, and the study has focused on
phonological and morphological features.
The second round of the project was started in 1999 and completed in 2007.

STRUCTURE OF THE DATA IN DOWNLOAD
=================================
The data is divided into folders seuruu_1 (first round of the study)
and seuruu_2 (second round of the study).

For each round the data is offered as follows:
The annotations for all 10 municipalities in one zip file
The metadata for all 10 municipalities in one zip file
The media data (wav files) is offered in one zip file per municipality

When downloading all data, the extracted structure will be:
Folder 'seuruu' with subfolders 'seuruu_1' and 'seuruu_2'.
'seuruu_1' and 'seuruu_2' each contain 10 folders for the 10 municipalities.

Each municipality folder contains the subfolders:
Annotations, Metadata, Media

The folder Annotations contains files in the formats TextGrid and eaf.
The folder Metadata contains files in the imdi format.
The folder Media contains wav files.


PLEASE NOTE: Because the folder structure as well as the README.txt and
LICENSE.txt is given in every single zip file for this corpus, please use
'unzip -o' to overwrite without prompting..
