FIN-CLARIN offers several methodological courses online every year. The courses are designed especially for graduate and postgraduate students in Humanities, Social Sciences and Behavioural Sciences who use research materials or corpora containing text or speech.
Students from all Finnish universities can participate for free. If space allows, participants can also be accepted from universities outside Finland. The courses are offered via the Moodle learning environment of the University of Helsinki. It is possible to log in directly with the user credentials of any member organization of the HAKA and eduGAIN federations. Please try to log in to Moodle well in advance. If you discover that you have no access, temporary user accounts are available for course participation upon timely request from the teacher.
Courses by FIN-CLARIN (2024-2025)
The link to Moodle and the instructions for joining the course area will appear on the course pages by the Friday of the week preceding the course start. The web pages of the individual courses will appear on the course listings of the University of Helsinki during summer 2024.
- KIK-404. Corpus Linguistics and Statistical Methods – Korpuslingvistiikka ja tilastolliset menetelmät (5 ECTS), online course 2.9.-18.10.2024 and 13.1.-28.2.2025 (Finnish and English)
- Both in the autumn and in the spring term, there are alternative study groups in English and in Finnish.
- How to enrol: Students registered at the University of Helsinki must enrol normally via Sisu during the registration period of the course (see course page, link above). Students of other universities can enrol by directly joining the course area on Moodle. In case the maximum capacity of the course is exceeded, Moodle enrolment may be closed from new students.
- KIK-LG212. Puheen analyysin perusteet – Introduction to Speech Analysis (5 ECTS), online course 28.10.-13.12.2024 (will be organized in parallel with the MA level course LDA-P302 Speech analysis methods, similarly to autumn 2023)
- The course can be taken in English or in Finnish.

- LDA-T309. Data Clinic / Aineistoklinikka (5 ECTS), online course, 15.11.2024-25.4.2025, materials available in English. During this course, the general meetings will be organized online. The participants will also work in small study groups with their peers. The groups may decide to meet either online or on the site of their preference.
- The course has been previously organized under the name Corpus Clinic.
